Lucknow: In a major step towards strengthening cybercrime investigation and offering quicker relief to victims of online fraud, the Lucknow Police Commissionerate has merged the Cyber Crime Cell with the Cyber Police Station. The new arrangement, approved by Police Commissioner Amrendra Kumar Sengar, will be implemented next week and is expected to streamline the complaint process and reduce delays in resolving cases.
Until now, victims of cyber fraud had to navigate a complex system. For frauds involving up to ₹5 lakh, complaints were to be filed with the Cyber Crime Cell, which would then refer the matter to the concerned local police station. For frauds exceeding ₹5 lakh, complaints were filed directly at the Cyber Police Station. These two units operated under separate officers, often leading to delays in investigations and complications in fund recovery for victims.
Recognizing these operational inefficiencies, Commissioner Sengar has initiated a unified structure in which both the Cyber Crime Cell and the Cyber Police Station will function as a single cohesive unit. All cyber fraud cases involving over ₹5 lakh will now be registered directly under the Cyber Police Station. Cases involving lesser amounts can be registered at the nearest police station’s cyber help desk.

The new system will be supervised by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Kamlesh Dixit, who will oversee all cybercrime-related cases under the consolidated unit. The move is expected to significantly reduce the turnaround time for investigations and help victims recover their defrauded money more efficiently.
The police department has also assured that citizens will no longer need to run from one office to another to lodge complaints, making the system more accessible and victim-friendly. The initiative marks a significant milestone in adapting law enforcement mechanisms to the growing menace of cybercrime in the digital age.
